Who
are the Young Okinawans of Hawaii?
In
1980, thirty-eight sansei (3rd generation immigrant) leaders traveled
to Okinawa as part of a “Leadership Tour.” Upon their
return, The Young Okinawans of Hawaii was formed. They believed that an
organization which emphasized participation by the younger generation
would generate interest. Thanks to the effort of many hard-working and
dedicated members, the organization is now 25 years old and has
succeeded in providing fine leaders throughout the Okinawan community
and attracting many interesting and talented new members. YOH continues
to encourage the sharing of fresh ideas to promote fellowship,
education and leadership to perpetuate the Okinawan history and
positive spirit here in Hawaii.
